SECURITY OFFICER
Reports to:Director of Building Maintenance and Security
Employment Status:Part-Time
FLSA Status:Non-Exempt
Hourly Rate Range:$17.00 to $20.00
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide a safe and secure environment for all Museum visitors, volunteers, and staff.
- Safeguard works of art.
- Handle all visitor inquiries and complaints courteously and competently.
- Complete required written reporting on visitor theft, injury, and lost property.
- Provide the Museum’s Human Resources Department with proper written reports for Workers’ Compensation employee injuries.
- Monitor all security equipment and systems.
- Make regular patrols of the interior and exterior of the Museum.
- Respond to and handle all disasters and emergencies of every kind including evacuations, according to the Museum’s Disaster Preparedness Plan.
- Stay vigilant for irregularities such as fire hazards and signs of intrusion.
- Perform CPR and/or first aid when needed.
- Attend/complete all safety training (in person and/or online).
- Comply with law enforcement, fire and other authorities in problems affecting the Museum.
- Provide security for all Museum events.
- Other tasks as assigned by Supervisor.
Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED or security job related work experience.
- Military, law enforcement or other additional training.
- Must have a valid California Guard Card.
- Excellent public relations skills.
- Good written, verbal, communication and other interpersonal skills.
- Strong patience skills.
- Available to work days, weekends and whenever needed.
- Ability to exercise good judgment, discretion, and confidentiality in a variety of situations.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Proficient in reading, speaking, and writing English.
- Excellent problem solving, time management and organizational skills.
- Attention to detail is essential.
- Skilled in the operation of public space surveillance (CCTV) and access control systems.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety regulations.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time, run/move quickly in case of disaster and/or emergencies, squat, bend, kneel, and twist, see, and read/write legibly, frequently going up and down stairs several times per day, and have a great sense of smell.
- Able to sit, walk, use hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment, hear, speak and listen, both over the phone and in person.
- Reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb or balance.
- Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move 75-100 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
