This presentation of selected works from the permanent collection provides insight into the ways in which OCMA has long supported the careers of some of the most influential artists—and often at pivotal moments in their careers. From its earliest days, the museum has been prescient in collecting (and exhibiting) emerging talent. Many of the artists featured—such as Chris Burden, Vija Celmins, Richard Diebenkorn, Jack Goldstein, Mary Heilmann, and Charles Ray—had solo exhibitions at the museum early in their careers. OCMA’s collection demonstrates the significance of these artists, both locally and internationally, as well as a commitment to social commentary, experimentation, and creativity.
