2017 California-Pacific Triennial: Building as Ever

2017 California-Pacific Triennial: Building as Ever

May 6, 2017 – September 3, 2017

The 2017 California-Pacific Triennial: Building as Ever explores our understanding of time relative to architecture and the built environment. It takes as its starting point the often-misguided idea that buildings are designed to last forever. By viewing architecture as an organic enterprise, the exhibition offers ways of accepting—and even embracing—the precariousness of a building.

The artists and collaboratives from the Pacific Rim Region featured in this exhibition engage in conversations that range from direct tactile representations of buildings to discursive dialogues that explore complexities as vast as international housing crises or as specific as individual lives and personal histories. The projects embrace a full range of media—drawing, photography, video, sculpture, and installation—as well as performance-based and socially engaged work. The majority of these projects have been created specifically for this exhibition and many are site-specific installations.
