OCMA General Policies

Engagement Guides
During your visit, you will find Engagement Guides throughout the building easily identifiable by the cream-colored shirts with an OCMA logo.  Engagement Guides are happy to answer any questions you have – whether about the art on display, where the nearest restroom is, or about upcoming public programs!


Pets & Service Animals
Service animals are welcome. The ADA defines a service animal as dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities.

In alignment with the ADA, the museum does not allow Emotional Support Animals to accompany you during your visit. More information can be found here

Pets are not permitted in the museum and are welcome outside on the Segerstrom Center for Arts campus.


Bicycles and Scooters
Bicycles and scooters are not permitted inside the museum. Bike racks are available.


Food and Drink
Food and drink are allowed on Level 1 and the Upper Plaza only. No food or drink is allowed in the galleries. Beverages and light snacks are available for purchase at the Fueling Station on Level 1 and our full-service Café and Bar Verdant is located on the Upper Plaza, Level 2.  

No outside food and drink is allowed in the museum.

Bags & Lockers
For the safety of the artwork, we encourage you to leave large bags at home or in your car. All large bags, backpacks, and umbrellas can be safely stored, free of charge, in lockers located on Level 1.

Items that will not be able to be stored in the lockers include bicycles, folding bicycles, large musical instruments, strollers, and luggage of any size.

OCMA does not allow items larger than 12 x 7 x 14 inches (30.5 x 17.8 x 35.6 cm) into the galleries. Additional items that are not permitted in the galleries include food, beverages, water bottles, poster tubes, flowers, balloons, bicycles, large musical instruments, umbrellas, and luggage of any kind.
 

Weapons
Weapons inside the museum pose a potential threat to the safety and security of our visitors and employees, and firearms of any type are strictly prohibited at all times inside the museum.
 

Galleries
Please view from a safe distance and do not touch the art. Even clean hands can damage surfaces and we appreciate you helping us keep the artwork safe.

For the safety of the art, pens and markers are not permitted within the galleries. Pencils are available at OCMA’s Welcome Desk.

Personal Photography and Video Policy
OCMA welcomes visitors to capture their experiences at the museum through personal photography and videos for personal, non-commercial use.
To ensure the enjoyment of all visitors and the safety of the art, we kindly request that you adhere to the following guidelines:

1. Personal and Non-Commercial Use: Visitors may use handheld cameras and phones to take photographs and videos of the artworks, the galleries, and the building for personal, non-commercial use unless otherwise designated. Photographs and videos taken within the museum cannot be commercially published, sold, reproduced, or distributed. OCMA prohibits photography and videography projects, including engagement, wedding, graduation, or other special gatherings when the primary goal for a museum visit is photography unless prior approval has been granted. Personal projects undertaken by hired photographers and videographers are also prohibited at the museum. 

2. Respect for Art and Visitors: Please be mindful of your surroundings and refrain from touching, leaning on, or propping cameras against any artworks, pedestals, exhibition walls or display cases. No flash photography is allowed in the galleries. Artworks marked with a no-photography symbol may not be photographed. While taking photographs or videos, please be considerate of other visitors and do not block entrances, exits, or pathways. Tripods, monopods, selfie sticks, drones, and other external photography equipment are not allowed at any time in the museum.

3. Privacy and Consent: When capturing photographs or videos that include other visitors and staff members, please be respectful of their privacy. Obtain explicit consent from individuals if their recognizable image is prominently featured in your content, especially if you intend to share it publicly. We ask that you respect any requests by individuals who do not wish to be photographed or recorded.

4. Sharing and Attribution: Visitors are encouraged to share their photographs and videos on social media platforms, using the official museum hashtags, including @ocmamuseum and #ocma. When sharing, please be respectful of the artists and the museum’s intellectual property rights. Do not claim authorship or ownership of the artwork.

By abiding by these guidelines, you contribute to a positive and enjoyable experience for all museum visitors. We appreciate your cooperation in preserving the integrity of our exhibitions while ensuring that you can capture and share cherished memories.

COVID-19 Safety Guidelines
To ensure safety for visitors and staff, OCMA has implemented the following measures:

  • Visitors and staff are encouraged to stay home if they are feeling sick. Please do not visit the museum if you have a fever or any COVID-19 symptoms, have tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 14 days, or have had close contact with anyone who is confirmed or is suspected of having COVID-19.
  • Mask use is optional throughout OCMA, in accordance with Orange County guidelines.

OCMA’s top priority is the health and well-being of our visitors and staff. An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public space where people are present. We cannot guarantee that you will not be exposed to COVID-19 during your visit, and all those entering OCMA do so at their own risk as to such exposure.

Visitor Conduct
OCMA staff and visitors have the right to an environment free from abusive, threatening, or inappropriate behavior. The museum reserves the right to remove any person acting in an unacceptable or inappropriate manner. OCMA is not liable for the loss, damage, or theft of any personal property brought onto any part of our premises and is not responsible for any personal belongings left behind.

Café and Bar
OCMA’s café Verdant offers a fresh, innovative, plant-forward menu that rotates and highlights the bounty of local and seasonal produce in Southern California. Chef Ross leads Verdant with Chef Nick Weber and General Manager Alyssa McDiarmid, both alumnae of the Patina Group.

In addition to its menu of California cuisine replete with locally sourced, organic ingredients, Verdant offers gourmet coffees and teas, including ceremonial-grade matcha, and features a full bar with a carefully curated wine list and craft cocktails. The café space is located on the museum’s Upper Plaza and provides visitors with a chic and joyful dining experience in a bright and creative setting.
