State of Mind: New California Art circa 1970
October 9, 2011 – January 22, 2012
State of Mind: New California Art circa 1970 offers the first in-depth survey of Conceptual Art and related practices in Northern and Southern California. Organized as part of the Getty Foundation initiative Pacific Standard Time: Art in L.A. 1945-1980, State of Mind showcases more than 150 works that demonstrate the contributions of California artists in the development of Conceptual art and other new genres. Featuring installations, photographs, videos, artist’s books, and extensive performance documentation—many of which have rarely or never been seen—this exhibition elucidates this dynamic era and foreshadows the concerns of young artists working today.
