California-based artist Charles Long explores the possibilities of sculpture through his usage of materials, vibrant colors, and intricate shapes. Long’s work incorporates references to popular culture, art history, nature and technology. His participatory installation 100 lbs. of Clay (2001), featured in the Start, Start, Again exhibition, invites visitors to create and mold sculptures from colorful clay emphasizing the cycle of initiation and reinvention and reminding us that art is rooted in “making an occasion” for new experiences.
Join Charles Long in conversation with OCMA’s CEO and Director Heidi Zuckerman, as they delve into the reimagination of material, the fleeting nature of art, and Long’s stylistic wit in creating his work.
