Weekend Studio: The Expressive Figure

Painter Jon Serl often represented the human form in vivid, fantastical ways that reflected his free-spirited approach to art and life. Taking inspiration from Serl’s theatrical figure paintings, participants will use chalk pastel and other materials to experiment with scale, shape, and color while drawing from a life model. Visitors can explore Serl’s work in our exhibition Jon Serl: As One, As Many. 

Tickets are $10 or free for residents of Costa Mesa. Advance registration is required, and space is limited. Overflow seating may be available with modified materials. Registrants that arrive more than 15 minutes past the start time cannot be guaranteed entry. 

Weekend Studio workshops invite artists of all experience levels to engage with current exhibitions through creative, hands-on activities. Workshops involve materials that are suitable for ages six (6) and up only, and all families must sit together for the duration of the program.
